On October 22nd, 2018, 21 members of the Platte Valley FFA chapter made the trek out to Indianapolis, Indiana to attend the 91st National FFA Convention. The chapter had two silver placing teams, two speakers placed in the top 16 in the nation while the chapter itself earned a three- star national chapter award for their efforts throughout the year. Additionally, the chapter had one member qualify to sing in the National FFA Choir and four members received their American Degree, the highest degree awarded in the FFA.
Ashlyn Ochsner, senior at Platte Valley and the Vice President of the chapter, placed in the top 16 in the Prepared Public Speaking competition. Jake Johnson represented the chapter in the Creed Speaking contest, placing in the top 16. The Milk Quality Team placed in the silver division, which is in the top third of all teams competing, the team members included, Lainee Bernhardt, Olivia Thorn, Jed Sidwell, and Brandon Kerbs. The Parliamentary Procedure team placed in the silver division of the “Superbowl LDE”, this team consisted of Amelia Hatch, Dillon Fox, Joey Smith, Mackenzie Johnson, Taryn Lambrecht, and Kassandra Shoemaker. The vocally talented individual from our chapter who was chosen to sing in the National Choir was Kirsten Gardener.
Four past members of the FFA chapter received their American Degree, these members were a part of less than 1% of FFA membership who receive this degree, congratulations to Bailee Hatch, Brody Chestnut, Mackenzie Schneider, and Caitlyn Ochsner on this achievement.
