**PLATTE VALLEY FIRE AWARDED ENERGY IMPACT GRANT FOR TRAINING GROUND PROJECT**
The Platte Valley Fire Protection District is excited to announce that we have received an Energy Impact Grant from the State of Colorado to enhance our training facility. Over the past few months, a new storage building has been built by the fire district to store reserve apparatus, technical rescue, training and facilities management equipment. This will allow the Platte Valley firefighters better operational readiness to respond to the varying calls for service in our district and in Weld County. The facility will continue to be open to outside agencies in the region to train together and continue to develop and foster relationships to better serve our citizens.
Over the next few months, the second phase of the training facility upgrade will begin thanks to the grant funding. The approximately $360,000 awarded by the Division of Local Affairs will assist the fire district in replacing the gravel training ground with a concrete surface. This will allow for a safer environment for the firefighters to train. There will also be several additions to the training facility that are needed to address current and future hazards that are present in the district and surrounding areas. Those include a trench rescue and confined space rescue area, advanced fire behavior training equipment, and search and rescue facility.
Through our partnerships with the oil and gas industry, we will also add industry specific equipment for first responders and those throughout the region to train on. This area will be able to be updated as needed with the advancement of the equipment. The responders will be able to train alongside members of the industry to collaborate on the safest way to mitigate emergencies.
